Amazon.com Product Description Carry your bicycles as securely as possible and avoid the hassles of high-threshold rooftop mounts or messy pile-on racks with the Allen 104S premium trunk-mount rack. Designed to fit sedans, hatchbacks, minivans, and SUVs, the rack snaps into place right out of the box--no frustrating assembly, no instructions that take a half hour to figure out. More importantly, the rack holds up to four bikes at once, with 22-inch-long arms that accommodate road bikes, mountain bikes, and hybrids. And should you need to access an item in the trunk, the 104S folds easily out of the way with one hand. Bundled with a patented individual tie-down system that secures and protects your bikes, the 104S comes with a lifetime warranty. About Allen Bike Racks In 1967, after a few years of working on the aerospace technology for the Apollo missions, Dick Allen was out of a job. Government cutbacks led Allen, a Harvard-trained physicist, to transform his garage hobby into a new industry. A cycling enthusiast, inventor, and family man, Allen had a personal need for a bike-carrying device. On weekends, he would take his sons and wife to Cape Cod or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. What proved difficult time and again was the transport of his family's bicycles. Rather than fight through inconvenience with twine and a dinged car, Allen sought an answer for himself as well as a market in which he foresaw major growth possibilities. Always a pathfinder, Allen took to work in his Lincoln, Massachusetts garage in search of a more efficient way to transport bikes. Drafting designs during the day and constructing them throughout the night, he put together a model made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding). At first, the Allens tested the prototype on weekend excursions. Finding the first trunk-mounted rack to be a success, Dick started Allen Bike Racks shortly afterward. Dealer acceptance came quickly, and by 1971 Allen Bike Racks were sold nationally through a number of major bicycle distributors. Today, the company owns over three dozen patents and offers a versatile product line of bike racks while Dick's son Alex now owns and operates the business. What started out as a small garage-run operation now operates three warehouses nationally, two factories abroad, and sells products in more than a dozen countries around the world.

Bike Rack August 14, 2010 SummitMom3 I was pleased with how this bike rack worked - it securely held 3 kid bikes and 1 adult bike for our car trip from NJ to WV - 6 1/2 hours on our Toyota Sienna minivan. There were no issues and we look forward to being able to bring our bikes on more road trips. I also was impressed with the Amazon customer service - I needed the bike rack to arrive by Wednesday and pay for the speed shipping - and boom it arrived and was installed that very night for our trip. I would recommend this product and the amazon service.
Allen 104S Premium 4-Bike Trunk Mount Rack August 24, 2010 S. Valente I was trying to decide between this model and the Allen 104DB. I'm glad went with this model. It has and additional 2 inches room to load the bikes. They went in snug and may have been problematic if it was tighter. I traveled between NYC and Quebec City Canada (Approx 400 miles) and all 4 bikes remained secure. Same is to be said on the return trip.
A couple of issues kept me from giving it 5 Stars:
1. On one outing the straps became just a tad loose and when taking a turn the bikes swung enough where the rack made a tiny dent in on my rear door (Subaru 2003 Wagon). If it remained tightened properly this would not have occurred. This could have been my fault. The return trip of 9 hours proved flawless.
2. After loading the bikes, the instructions fail to tell you to re-tighten the bottom straps. MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS. The weight of the bikes creates slack.
3. The rack itself appears to be sturdy. The plastic sleeves separating the ties less so. But still no issues to report.
4. If at all possible try to rest the bottom arm of the rack on the top of your bumper. If you watch their video online they show it resting on the rear door itself. I did this and when the straps came loose, the dent happened. It would not been an issue if it rested properly on the bumper.
5. This item is made in China. For $150, they could be making it here.
I'm glad I bought this unit over the 104db. The addition room and easier installation mechanisms make it worth the extra $35.
